1992年に第1作が発売され、シリーズ化された人気ビデオゲームを映画化。ポール・W・S・アンダーソン監督の1995年製作『モータル・コンバット』、ジョン・R・レオネッティ監督の1997製作『モータルコンバット2』と過去にも映画化されている。
